Behavior Management
New Wave Wellness is a provider of behavior support services, also known as behavior management. Rooted in building trust and lasting relationships, behavior management is a scientific method that is based on the idea that problem behavior is learned over time and maintained by consequences in the environment. Effective behavioral management often requires teaching a new skill or appropriate behavior to replace an inappropriate behavior. Assessments and Behavior Support Plans are completed to target problem behaviors and provide our team with methods to support the individual in reducing pain associated with poor choice making and increase personal happiness by teaching more appropriate alternative behaviors. Consistency and repetition are key components to sustainable behavioral change.
The central work of New Wave Wellness is based in behavior support services, allowing us to focus on the various components needed to see change. Under the guidelines of the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BBDS) we provide services for individuals with developmental disabilities that enable them to live as independently as possible. We assist individuals in receiving community support and in-home (non-residential) services using a person-centered plan to determine which services are needed and who can best provide them. BDDS also monitors the quality of care and the facilities of those who are approved to provide these services in Indiana, and provides an array of supportive services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Music therapy is one of the services offered by New Wave Wellness. Here, music is used in a therapeutic context to attend to the needs of the individual, including physiological, mental, and social requirements. Since music therapy is a recognized medical specialty, it must be provided by a credentialed professional. After gathering information about the individual, our music therapist creates a treatment strategy tailored specifically to them. Activities in this plan involve musical expressions such as creating, performing, or appreciating music. Through participation in music with our music therapist, a patient’s skills are strengthened and transferred to other areas of life. Music therapy can help those who have trouble finding the right words to express themselves by providing them with a new way to connect with others and with themselves.
Music therapy has been shown to be beneficial in a variety of contexts, including boosting motivation to engage in medical care and fostering a sense of community among care providers and patients. We use music as a tool for healing by instructing patients in techniques for self-soothing, expressing feelings, decreasing discomfort, etc. Appointment duration often varies from person to person based on their requirements, and can be adjusted to fit each individual’s budget and need. All of our therapists are dedicated to providing consistent, high-quality care and keeping the client’s support group informed of their progress on a frequent basis.
Our RTs will collaborate with individuals to help them overcome emotional difficulties, such as sadness or anxiety, and to become more active members of society. Together, we strive to build independence, well-being, and quality of life. Members of the New Wave Wellness community are provided with the knowledge and training necessary to build the persuasive advocacy skills essential to advocate for their own health. Through participation in therapeutic activities, it is our objective to increase our clients’ sense of productivity, general health, and pleasure.
Together, We Will Build Behaviors for Success
